Citizenship
The requirements needed to apply for citizenship are the following:
- You must be a permanent resident for at least 5 years or 3 years, if you're married to a U.S. Citizen.
- Permanent resident card or identification.
- 2 passport pictures.
- A money order for $675.00 to USCIS
- Proof of any traveling (leaving & entering) the country within the last 5 years.
- Proof of addresses and employment in the last 5 years.
If you are married, please note the following:
- You must bring your spouse's social security number if he or she is an american citizen by birth.
- If your spouse became a citizen through naturalization, bring the date & location of your wedding.
- Also, if you were previously married, it is required to bring that information as well.
If you have had previous arrests or been to court please note the following:
- If you have been previously arrested, please bring a copy of the police report which you can get from the Police Station located on 35th & Michigan.
- If you've had any previous court appearances bring your court dispositions.
- You can get them at the Daley Center.
If you have any children:
- You must bring proof of their birth place and birth date.
- Number of resident card.
A civics exam in Spanish will only be given to:
- People 50 years old and older with 20 years of residence.
- People 55 years oid and older with 15 years of residence.
- People 65 years old and older with 25 years of residence.
