Constitutional Rights of the Immigrant
ADVICE IF ARRESTED BY IMMIGRATION OFFICER (ICE):
- DO NOT respond to any questions without speaking to a lawyer.
- Ask to speak to an attorney. Ask for the list of services with low prices or free in your area.
- DO NOT sign anything without consulting.
- DO NOT allow officers to enter your house without a warrant
- Ask to see a judge
- Ask to speak to someone in the consulate of their country origin.
- Give your information and A # to your family and obtain the information from their undocumented family members.
- Memorize the phone # of a free legal service agency.
Keep the following Information from your undocumented family members:
- Complete name and A # (Alien Registration Number) or # of the registration of the foregners.
- The date the person entered the U.S and how he/she came to the United States.
- Keep an accurate list of criminal conviction. Include date of the arrest, place of the arrest, and of conviction and sentence. Get a Certificate (Certificate of Disposition).
- A copy of the notice that appear (Notice) to appear "NTA" and any other documents of the immigration service.

- Consulado de Mexico: (312) 855-1380 ext. 207,213,214, and 215. (Use only in case of being arrested or call if you can't find your family).
- Center for Legal Services for Immigration: (312 341-9617 Tuesday at from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday and Friday from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.) Provide free services or lower prices.
- National Center for Justice for Immigrant: If your detainee call at 312 263-0901 (collect call) Call Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. If you are detained in a place where there blue phones that they are paid in advance, enter the code "Chicago Connections/National Immigration Justice Center" to make contact with this agency. If you are not detained call at (312) 660-1370.
